Earlier this year, AmeyBriggs were approached to provide support for the development of an allotment at Army HQ in Andover.
The concept developed from an MOD report, understanding the needs of UK Armed Forces Families which recommended enabling gardening in Service Family Accommodation (SFA) and supported the creation of allotments to improve mental wellbeing and morale.
The allotment at Andover is being organised by a community movement called DE Gardeners, who are a network that support SFA occupants to improve and maintain SFA gardens and develop allotments on DIO land. Army Welfare provided a grant for top soil, fencing and outdoor seating. In addition, a grant was given from Andover Local Authority for a communal shelter. Unfortunately, the grant did not stretch far enough to cover the build of foundations.
This project resonated with AmeyBriggs and were delighted to support such a worthwhile cause. As such, machinery and Sponsored Reserves were utilised to support the build of the reinforced concrete foundation for the shelter.
Despite the weather, four of our fantastic Sponsored Reserves worked tirelessly to get the job done. With the foundation complete, the community shelter build is underway and Army HQ can continue to develop the site over Autumn / Winter to get it ready for use by those who require it, for Spring next year.
A letter of thanks has been received from Army HQ for AmeyBriggs’ support:
“The team are a testament to what the MITER contract and Whole Force Approach is all about, its adaptability and flexibility and what it can do to support Defence and the wider Defence Community if utilised as it should be.”
